The Club Charlestown Conundrum
In May 2023, our friends at Club Charlestown reached out with a challenge. Their newly renovated outdoor area, The Courtyard, had a significant step, creating a barrier for patrons with mobility challenges. As one of the most popular areas in the venue, it was crucial that all members and guests could access it safely and easily.
Having worked with Tyrex previously on multiple accessibility solutions across the venue, Club Charlestown knew exactly who to call.

After a full site inspection and consultation with the Club’s team, we discovered that the entry point to The Courtyard had a six-metre-wide step with a structural pillar directly in the middle. This meant a standard one-piece ramp wouldn’t cut it.
Our design team proposed a custom multi-piece rubber ramp system, precisely measured and engineered to:

Match the existing step dimensions to the millimetre

Fit snugly around the central pillar with two specially notched middle sections

Provide a seamless, slip-resistant transition for all users
Behind the Scenes: The Tyrex Process
Back in our workshop, we brought the concept to life using our CAD Fusion design software. Once the plans were approved by Club Charlestown, our production team began crafting the custom moulds using Australian recycled rubber granules.
Each section of the ramp was poured, cured, and quality-checked by our local team — all in our carbon-neutral factory. After curing, the ramp components were delivered to site and installed by our team to ensure a perfect fit.
The result? A sleek, safe, and durable access ramp that enhances The Courtyard’s usability for all patrons.
